A Thousand Years by Xu Bacheng

A Thousand Years by Xu Bacheng

On August 5th, the opening of A Thousand Years by Xu Bacheng was held successfully at The Opposite House. The exhibition runs to October 31st, 2015. Red Gate Gallery & The Opposite House are delighted to invite you to visit this exhibition.

The exhibition A Thousand Years will present two installations by Xu Bacheng.

A Thousand Years begins with Sanlitun in A Thousand Years, in which Xu creatively used cement as a basic element to depict an aerial view of the modern-day Taikoo Li Sanlitun. Cement, an important material used for construction, is widely used in the development of Taikoo Li Sanlitun. It represents growth, evolution and potential. The rapid development of Taikoo Li Sanlitun promises a colourful world of dining, entertainment, shopping and nightlife. It is a haven where visitors can get away from the reality and hustle and bustle of a metropolitan city. With its charm, unique characteristics and ever-changing surroundings, it is difficult to imagine what the area will look like in one thousand years.

The other part of the exhibition features Silence and Solitude, an assemblage of household electrical appliances representing our dependence on these items, and how we are subconsciously exposed to their presence. The appliances displayed have been retired, but they project a feeling of the familiar, the ordinary and strange, but also vintage. The lifecycle of these objects is represented through Silence and Solitude.
