Beautiful World - Liu Shuiyang

Beautiful World - Liu Shuiyang

The materials used in this large-scale installation Beautiful World are created from a catastrophic event. High temperature and pressure slowly melt the metal. By intervening through time, place and physical movement the final, cooled form of corrupted industrial material, represents a distancing between the artist and the original object. The creation is random and organic -unpredictable - warning us of possible disasters caused by changes and conflicts in this period of great social transformation.

Liu Shuiyang graduated from the Department of Sculpture, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University in 2001. He is now living and working in Beijing. His works cover sculptures, installations, videos, performance and other media. The materials utilized include traditional bronze and marble materials, as well as construction waste, various molten metals, and discarded concrete from demolition sites creating installations from 2013.

Liu Shuiyang's works often touch on today's taboo subjects, such as injury, disaster and social problems related to life and survival. His works have been exhibited in New York, Kwangju, the Martin Gallery of the University of Muhlenberg and Arts Center, Museum Zündorfer Wehrturm in Cologne, as well as many group exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai and other places.
